We are currently seeking a talented individual for the position of Capital Resources Analyst I, II, or Senior. The successful candidate will perform research, analysis and evaluation activities related to the acquisition and management of capital resources, including regulatory compliance, debt and lease financings, investments and compliance for multiple entities. Perform risk control and credit and risk management functions for wholesale marketing, trading and hedging activities at TEP, UNS Gas and UNS Electric. This position may provide services to affiliates of the Company subject to the UNS Energy Code of Conduct and the related Policies and Procedures.

Position-Related Responsibilities

Risk Control, Credit and Risk Management:

  • Performs risk control functions including updating forward curves, developing forward curve methodologies on non-standard transactions, and independent trade confirmation.  Ensures that the proper value is captured in the risk system.  Performs stress-testing and sensitivity analysis of portfolios.  Provides month-end reports to financial accounting used to prepare journal entries for trading and hedging activities.  Recommends enhancements to trade capture systems (WebTrader, GasTrader) and assesses credit monitoring systems.
  • Prepares credit analyses of corporations, municipalities and financial institutions that engage in wholesale energy and/or gas transactions with TEP, UNSE and UNSG.  Recommends credit ratings and appropriate credit limits.  Prepares and monitors weekly and monthly credit exposure reports.  Monitors the credit risk of the Company’s short-term investments.
  • Monitors collateral and credit enhancement requirements compared to established limits, including collateral we are posting with counterparties, as well as collateral or credit enhancement we may require from counterparties.  Manages transactions in collateral margin accounts. Works with banks on issuance and amendments of letters of credit.
  • Coordinates with counterparties and Legal Department on negotiation of contracts (including ISDAs and NAESBs), collateral agreements, guarantees, letters of credit, etc.
  • Ensures that the department’s Sarbanes Oxley controls are met and that audits run smoothly.

Debt and Lease Acquisition, Management and Compliance:

  • Provides research and analysis related to the feasibility and cost/benefit of different financing plans and capital management strategies.  Such activities may include, among other things, researching new financing and security structures, analyzing capital markets data, gathering information required for the refinancing of existing debt and lease obligations, comparing alternative financing proposals, and researching restrictive covenants contained in the Company’s various credit and lease agreements.
  • Participates in the Company’s short-term borrowing and repayment activities under revolving lines of credit.   Provides loan and lease operations support for the Company’s long-term debt and lease obligations.  Ensures compliance with the Company’s debt and lease agreements. 
  • Compiles and analyzes data related to the Company’s capital structure and cost of capital.  Monitors changes in interest rate levels, the market value of the Company’s fixed income securities, the required rates of return on such securities, and changes in capital structure.  Performs research and analysis for the purpose of determining and substantiating the Company’s cost of capital.
  • Prepares analysis or information to be used in the preparation of various regulatory compliance reports, including SEC reports, registration statements, official statements, offering memoranda, etc.   Completes responses to regulatory data requests for financing applications and rate cases and performs additional assignments as requested such as financing due diligence.

Position is part of the greater Credit, Capital Resources, and Treasury Services team and may support and/or perform functions related to the greater team responsibilities while ensuring all audit and separation of duties standards are adhered to.



Requirements

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (Equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.)

Level I

Description

  • Has primary responsibility for less complex activities or projects. 
  • Will assist more experienced analyst in large projects.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Requires Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Accounting or related field with coursework in those topics.
  • Demonstrated ability to work both independently and as part of a team.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Strong analytical capabilities and problem solving skills. 
  • Thorough understanding of financial, economic, credit, accounting principles and derivative instruments, including a sound knowledge of options pricing theory.
  • Strong project management skills, including the ability to prioritize and meet deadlines, with emphasis on accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.  Ability to communicate with employees at all levels of the Company, and with external counterparties.
  • Excellent computer skills, especially with spreadsheet applications.

Level II

Description

  • Performs tasks similar to Financial Analyst I but on more complex projects. 
  • Has primary responsibility for small to medium projects.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Minimum qualifications of Level I.
  • Minimum of 2 years of relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Preferred qualifications of Level I.

Senior Level

Description

  • Has primary responsibility for complex research, analysis, or compliance projects. 
  • May have several projects assigned at the same time, may lead large projects, and may assist other analysts on large projects. 
  • Directs and reviews work prepared by others. 
  • May provide advice/training to less experienced analysts.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Minimum qualifications of Level II.
  • Minimum of 4 years of relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Preferred qualifications of Level II.
  • Credit analysis experience and knowledge of derivative instruments is desired.
